The Story of the Miraculous Medal
In 1830, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to a young novice, St. Catherine Labouré, in Paris, France. During these apparitions, Mary showed Catherine a vision of a medal and instructed her to have it made, promising:
“All who wear it will receive great graces; they should wear it around the neck. Graces will abound for those who wear it with confidence.”
The medal shows Mary standing on a globe, crushing a serpent beneath her feet, with rays of light streaming from her hands. Around the border are the words: “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”
Since its creation, countless miracles, conversions, healings, and answered prayers have been attributed to this powerful sacramental.
