St. Athanasius Novena
St. Athanasius (c. 296-373) was a young deacon at the Council of Nicaea and for the next forty-five years Bishop of Alexandria, of which he spent some seventeen in exile. Four emperors banished him, five times in all, and there were years when nearly the whole East had gone over to Arianism and he seemed to stand alone, which gave rise to the saying Athanasius against the world. He wrote On the Incarnation and the Life of Antony, and his Easter letter of 367 gives the first list of the New Testament exactly as we have it. Pray this novena for theologians and bishops, for the defence of the faith, for those who must hold an unpopular truth, and for the favor you most need.

In thy flesh, O blessed Patriarch, Thou filled up the sufferings of Christ, suffering many persecutions, even from among those counted within the Church.
O God-bearing Saint, with the staff of thy teachings thou drove heretical wolves far from the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church, Thou didst encompass and defend her with the fortifications of thy words and presented her sound and safe to Christ.
