Day 1
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Almighty and eternal God! With lively faith and reverently worshiping Thy divine Majesty, I prostrate myself before Thee and invoke with filial trust Thy supreme bounty and mercy. Illumine the darkness of my intellect with a ray of Thy heavenly light and inflame my heart with the fire of Thy divine love, that I may contemplate the great virtues and merits of St. Barbara, in whose honor I make this novena, and following her example imitate, like her, the life of Thy divine Son.
Moreover, I beseech Thee to grant graciously, through the merits and intercession of this powerful Helper, the petition which through her I humbly place before Thee, devoutly saying, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
(mention request here…)
Vouchsafe graciously to hear it, if it redounds to Thy greater glory and to the salvation of my soul.
O God, Who didst adorn Thy holy virgin and martyr Barbara with extraordinary fortitude in the confession of the Faith, and didst console her in the most atrocious torments; grant us through her intercession perseverance in the fulfillment of Thy law and the grace of being fortified before our end with the holy sacraments, and of a happy death. Through Christ our Lord. Amen
Intrepid virgin and martyr, St. Barbara, through thy intercession come to my aid in all needs of my soul. Obtain for me the grace to be preserved from a sudden and unprovided death; assist me in my agony, when my senses are benumbed and I am in the throes of death. Then, O powerful patroness of the dying, come to my aid! Repel from me all the assaults and temptations of the evil one, and obtain for me the grace to receive before death the holy sacraments, that I breathe forth my soul confirmed in faith, hope, and charity, and be worthy to enter eternal glory. Amen
My Lord and my God! I offer up to Thee my petition in union with the bitter passion and death of Jesus Christ, Thy Son, together with the merits of His immaculate and blessed Mother, Mary ever virgin, and of all the saints, particularly with those of the holy Helper in whose honor I make this novena.
Look down upon me, merciful Lord! Grant me Thy grace and Thy love, and graciously hear my prayer. Amen

More About St Barbara
St. Barbara is one of the most beloved virgin martyrs of the early Church, venerated for her steadfast faith and courageous witness to Christ in the face of terrible persecution. According to tradition, she lived in the third century in Nicomedia (in present-day Turkey) during the reign of Emperor Maximian. Her father, Dioscorus, was a wealthy pagan who kept her secluded in a tower to protect her from the outside world and to preserve her for a suitable marriage. Yet in her solitude, Barbara’s keen intellect led her to contemplate the natural world, and through this contemplation, she came to recognize the one true God even before she had received formal instruction in the Christian faith.
While her father was away on a journey, Barbara secretly received baptism from a priest and became a fervent Christian. As a sign of her newfound faith in the Holy Trinity, she instructed workers to add a third window to the bathhouse her father was constructing, so that the three windows might remind her of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. When Dioscorus returned and discovered his daughter’s conversion, he was consumed with rage. Barbara’s calm profession of faith only intensified his fury, and in his blindness he dragged her before the Roman prefect to be condemned as a Christian.
Barbara endured horrific tortures with supernatural fortitude, sustained by her love of Christ and by miraculous consolations. According to pious tradition, her wounds were healed each night through divine intervention, and the Lord Himself appeared to strengthen her. When all attempts to break her faith failed, the prefect ordered her execution. In a final act of cruelty, Dioscorus himself carried out the sentence, beheading his own daughter. Tradition holds that immediately afterward, he was struck by lightning and consumed by fire—a dramatic sign of divine justice that led to St. Barbara’s patronage of those who work with fire, explosives, and artillery, as well as those who seek protection from sudden and unprovided death.
The Church has long honored St. Barbara as one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, saints whose intercession was considered particularly efficacious. Her feast day is celebrated on December 4th, and she remains a powerful intercessor for Catholics facing danger, especially for miners, artillerymen, firefighters, and military personnel. Her story reminds the faithful that no earthly power—not even the bonds of family—can separate us from the love of Christ, and that the grace of God is sufficient to sustain us through any trial. St. Barbara’s courageous example invites us to examine our own willingness to profess our faith boldly, trusting that the same Lord who strengthened her in her tower and in her torments will never abandon those who call upon His Name.
