St. Boniface Novena
St. Boniface (c. 675-754) was born Winfrid in Devon and gave up the quiet of an English monastery for the forests of Germany. Sent by Pope Gregory II, he took an axe to the sacred oak of Thor at Geismar before a crowd waiting for the god to strike him down, and built a chapel from its timber. He founded monasteries, reformed the Frankish clergy, and became Archbishop of Mainz. At almost eighty he went back to the Frisian mission and was killed there with fifty-two companions, forbidding them to defend him. Pray this novena with the traditional litany for missionaries, for the restoration of the faith, and for the favor you most need.
