St. Bruno Novena
St. Bruno (1030-1101) was the most celebrated teacher in France, master of the cathedral school of Reims and tutor of a future pope, when he gave it all up. Refusing an archbishopric, he went with six companions into a wild valley in the Alps and founded the Grande Chartreuse, cradle of the Carthusian Order. Called to Rome to advise the Pope, he begged to be let go again, and died in the solitude of Calabria. He left no rule and no writings but a few letters, only sons who have kept his silence for nine hundred years.
