St. Catherine Laboure Novena
St. Catherine Laboure (1806-1876) was a farmer’s daughter from Burgundy who lost her mother at nine and told a statue of Our Lady, now you will be my mother. As a young Daughter of Charity in Paris she was called to the chapel at night in 1830 and knelt with her hands in Our Lady’s lap, and in November of that year was shown the design of the Miraculous Medal. She told only her confessor. For the next forty-six years she cooked, kept the poultry, and cared for old men at Enghien, and almost no one guessed who she was until months before her death. Pray this novena for humility, for faithfulness in hidden work, for the elderly and those who nurse them, and for the favor you most need.

You know, Mary, how often our souls have been the sanctuaries of your Son Who hates iniquity. Obtain for us then a deep hatred of sin and that purity of heart which will attach us to God alone so that our every thought, word, and deed may tend to His greater glory.
Obtain for us also a spirit of prayer and self-denial that we may recover by penance what we have lost by sin and at length attain to that blessed abode where you are the Queen of Angels and of People.
