St. Charles Lwanga and Companions Novena
St. Charles Lwanga (c. 1860-1886) was master of the royal pages at the court of King Mwanga II of Buganda. When the king turned on the Christians and demanded of the boys what no Christian could give, Lwanga shielded them, baptized those still catechumens, and led them in refusing. On the third of June, 1886, he was burned alive at Namugongo, and his companions with him, among them Kizito, who was about fourteen. Twenty-two of the Ugandan martyrs were canonized in 1964. This novena includes the litany naming each of them. Pray it for courage under persecution, for young people, for purity, and for the favor you most need.
