Patron saint of the Philippines and the Filipino people, Filipino youth, those working overseas and separated from their families, altar servers, and the falsely accused
St. Lorenzo Ruiz Novena
St. Lorenzo Ruiz (c. 1600-1637) was a married layman of Binondo in Manila, a church clerk and calligrapher with a wife and three children, who in 1636 fled a murder charge he almost certainly did not deserve and took ship with a band of Dominican missionaries. Only at sea did he learn they were bound for Japan, where Christianity meant death, and he chose to stay with them. Tortured at Nagasaki and hung upside down in the pit, he answered his judges that had he a thousand lives he would offer them all to God. He is the first Filipino saint. Pray this novena for the Philippines, for Filipino youth and those working far from home, for courage in professing the faith, and for the favor you most need.

Day 1
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Dear St. Lorenzo Ruiz, as husband, father, and martyr of faith, look upon our humble prayers and our plea for your intercession lovingly. You were a model of faith and perseverance despite your suffering for the Name of Jesus.
Inspire us to be a witness of faith despite the harshness of the world. Through your intercession help our young people to seek Jesus in the Holy Eucharist and contemplate His life with His blessed mother through the prayer of the Holy Rosary. We place our needs and intentions
(mention request here…)
in your hands and trust that you will carry them to the Throne of God.
Amen.
O God, who gave Saint Lorenzo Ruiz the courage to leave his home and his family for love of you, and strength in his torments to confess your name, grant, through his intercession, that we may bear witness to Christ in the ordinary duties of our state, and remain faithful to the end. Through Christ our Lord.

“My dearest San Lorenzo Ruiz, 🇵🇭🤍 Thank you for these nine days and for the gift of getting to know you more deeply. I love that you were an ordinary Filipino layman—a husband, a father, a worker, a man who loved his family, prayed the Rosary, and faithfully followed Jesus. Your courage reminds me that holiness can be lived in ordinary life, and that when the time comes, we can choose Jesus no matter what. I entrusted so many things to you during this novena. Some are too personal to share, but you know, San Lorenzo. Between the two of us, you know. 🤍 I hope this is only the beginning of our friendship. Stay close to me and help me love Jesus more faithfully, serve with humility, and remain courageous in whatever comes. San Lorenzo Ruiz, first Filipino saint and martyr, pray for us. 🇵🇭🤍”
