Saint Sophia, noble mother who carried the names of the three theological virtues in your very children, you stood unmoved before the throne of the emperor Hadrian and refused to deny the Lord Jesus Christ. Teach us to confess our faith openly, without shame or compromise, in the small trials of daily life as well as in times of great testing.

Saint Sophia, having buried your three daughters with your own hands on the Appian Way, you lingered three days in prayer at their tomb before giving up your spirit. Yours was a grief no earthly consolation could reach, yet you persevered in prayer unto death.
