What is the Feast of the Visitation?
The narrative begins with the Annunciation, where the St. Gabriel the Archangel tells Mary that she will conceive a child by the Holy Spirit. Following this, Mary visits Elizabeth, who is also miraculously pregnant with John the Baptist.
Upon Mary’s arrival, Elizabeth’s unborn child, John the Baptist, leaps in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, acknowledges Mary as the mother of my Lord.
During this visit, Mary proclaims the Magnificat, the great hymn of praise to God,
The feast celebrates the fulfillment of the prophecy of the coming of the Savior and the precursor.
