About This Community Novena

Join Catholics from around the world this June 2026 as we pray the St. Patrick Novena together — and as we welcome a wave of new members from Nigeria, where Intercede is spreading fast. This nine-day prayer runs June 17–25, 2026, uniting believers across the globe to seek the intercession of the great Apostle of Ireland — and patron of Nigeria — for the spread of the Gospel and unity among the faithful.

St. Patrick gave his entire life to bringing Christ to a people who did not yet know Him. When we pray this novena as a community, we ask him to obtain for us that same courage and zeal — to live our faith boldly and to carry it to those around us.

Why Pray the St. Patrick Novena?

St. Patrick was once a captive shepherd in a foreign land who became the missionary who converted a nation. His witness invites us to:

  • Pray for evangelization — that the Gospel may reach every heart, as it reached Ireland through Patrick’s labors
  • Seek courage in faith — Patrick faced danger and hostility yet never wavered
  • Grow in devotion to the Holy Trinity — Patrick famously taught the mystery of the Trinity using the humble shamrock
  • Persevere through hardship — from slavery to sainthood, his life is a testament to trust in God’s providence
  • Pray as one global community — join thousands of Catholics lifting the same intention together

About St. Patrick

Born in Roman Britain in the late 4th century, Patrick was captured by raiders as a teenager and sold into slavery in Ireland, where he spent six years as a shepherd. In his isolation he turned to God, and his faith deepened profoundly. After a daring escape and return to his family, he heard the call to go back to the very land of his captivity — now as a bishop — to bring its people to Christ.

Through years of preaching, St. Patrick converted much of Ireland, baptizing thousands and establishing the Church across the island. He is remembered for teaching the doctrine of the Holy Trinity with a three-leaved shamrock, and his bold profession of faith echoes through the great prayer attributed to him, St. Patrick’s Breastplate: “I arise today through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity.”

Why Pray This Novena Now?

St. Patrick is the patron not only of Ireland but of Nigeria — and that patronage feels especially providential right now. Intercede has just been discovered by Catholics across Nigeria, where the app is spreading rapidly, and we want to welcome our new brothers and sisters in Christ in the most fitting way we know: by praying together.

His bond with Nigeria is no accident of the calendar. The Catholic faith reached much of the country through Irish missionaries — among them the Holy Ghost (Spiritan) Fathers and the Kiltegan priests of St. Patrick’s Missionary Society — who gave their lives to that work more than a century ago. The Church they served grew deep roots, and in 1961 St. Patrick was named a patron of the nation in thanksgiving for that heritage. The saint who once carried the Gospel to Ireland, far from his own home, is already a friend to the faithful of Nigeria.

So we ask his intercession to bless this new wave of believers and to make us one people in prayer. If you’re joining us from Nigeria: welcome home. We are praying with you and for you. And to every member of the Intercede community around the world, this is our invitation to pray in unity with our Nigerian brothers and sisters this June.

Prayer Intentions

As we pray this novena together, we especially remember:

  • Our growing Nigerian community — welcoming the many new members joining Intercede, and praying in unity with them
  • Evangelization and the missions — that the Good News may reach every corner of the world
  • The conversion of hearts — for all who have yet to encounter Christ
  • Courage for believers — that Catholics everywhere may profess their faith boldly
  • The people and Church of Ireland and Nigeria — and all nations under St. Patrick’s patronage

Add Your Personal Intentions

While our community unites around a shared intention, you’re encouraged to bring your own intentions as well. St. Patrick is a powerful intercessor for all who seek to grow in faith and draw others to Christ.
