Patron saint of Barcelona and Mérida, sailors, young girls, purity, and those who suffer for the faith
St. Eulalia Novena (of Barcelona and Mérida)
St. Eulalia (c. 290-304) was a young Christian girl of Roman Spain who boldly confessed Christ before the persecutors and was put to death for her faith at the age of only twelve or thirteen. She is honored at Mérida and at Barcelona, where she is the city’s beloved co-patroness. Pray this novena for courage in the faith, for purity, for young people, and for the favor you most need.

Day 1
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
O glorious St. Eulalia, virgin and martyr,
while still a child you loved Jesus Christ above all things,
and you were not afraid to confess His holy name
before those who persecuted His Church.
Neither the tears of your mother nor the threats of the judge,
neither torments nor fire could separate you
from the love of your heavenly Bridegroom.
Look with kindness upon me, who turn to you with confidence.
Obtain for me a lively faith, a pure heart,
and the courage to remain faithful to Christ in every trial.
Present to Our Lord, through your powerful intercession,
the favor I humbly ask in this novena
(mention request here…)
if it be for the glory of God and the good of my soul. Amen.
Day 1: For a lively faith
O St. Eulalia, from your earliest years you believed with your whole heart in Jesus Christ, true God and true man, and you held nothing in this world as dear as your faith. Obtain for me a faith that is firm and living, a faith that shapes my thoughts, my words, and my actions, so that I may never be ashamed of the Gospel, but may treasure it as the pearl of great price.
Let us pray.
O God, who among the wonders of Your power
bestow even on the weaker sex the victory of martyrdom,
mercifully grant that we, who celebrate the heavenly birthday
of blessed Eulalia, Your virgin and martyr,
may by her example draw nearer to You.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Our Father
Hail Mary
Glory Be
St. Eulalia, pray for us.
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Day 2: For courage to confess Christ
O St. Eulalia, you went freely before the judge and declared that you were a Christian, though you knew it would cost you your life. Obtain for me the courage to confess Christ openly before others, at home, at work, and wherever I may be. When I am tempted to remain silent out of fear or human respect, remind me of the words of Our Lord: whoever acknowledges Me before men, I also will acknowledge before My Father who is in heaven.
Let us pray.
O God, who among the wonders of Your power
bestow even on the weaker sex the victory of martyrdom,
mercifully grant that we, who celebrate the heavenly birthday
of blessed Eulalia, Your virgin and martyr,

Day 3: For purity of heart
O St. Eulalia, spotless virgin, you kept your body and soul pure for Christ, and the snow that covered you after your death was a sign of your innocence. Obtain for me purity of heart, mind, and body. Help me to guard my eyes and my thoughts, to flee from every occasion of sin, and to see God in all things, for blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.

Day 4: For children and young people
O St. Eulalia, though you were only a child, you showed a strength that put the persecutors to shame. Watch over all children and young people, especially those who are tempted to abandon their faith, those who are led astray by bad companions, and those who suffer abuse or neglect. Obtain for them a deep love for Jesus and the grace to grow in wisdom, in age, and in grace before God and men.

Day 5: For parents and families
O St. Eulalia, your mother tried to keep you safe, yet you chose to give your life for Christ, and your sacrifice has been a blessing to the Church for all generations. Bless all parents and families. Obtain for parents the grace to raise their children in the faith and to entrust them completely to God, and grant that every home may be a place where Christ is known, loved, and served.

Day 6: For those who suffer for the faith
O St. Eulalia, you bore cruel torments with patience and joy for love of Jesus. Look with compassion upon all Christians who are persecuted, imprisoned, or put to death for their faith in our own day. Strengthen them in their sufferings, console them in their loneliness, and obtain for their persecutors the grace of conversion, as your blood became the seed of new Christians.
Let us pray.

Day 7: For patience in suffering
O St. Eulalia, you united your pains to the sufferings of Christ crucified, and you found strength in the Cross. Obtain for me the grace to accept with patience the trials, sicknesses, and sorrows of my life, and to offer them in union with Jesus for my own salvation and for the salvation of souls. Teach me to embrace my cross with love and to follow my Lord wherever He leads me.

Day 8: For victory over fear
O St. Eulalia, you were not afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Free me from every fear that keeps me from doing the will of God: the fear of suffering, the fear of the opinion of others, the fear of the future, and the fear of death. Fill my heart with the perfect love that casts out fear, and with a childlike trust in the providence of my heavenly Father.

Day 9: For a holy death
O St. Eulalia, at the moment of your death your soul rose to heaven like a white dove, to be united forever with Jesus, your Bridegroom. Obtain for me the grace to live each day in the friendship of God, so that at the hour of my death I may die in His grace, strengthened by the sacraments of the Church, and that my soul may fly to heaven to praise Him with you and all the saints for all eternity.
