What Is the Christ the King Novena?
The Solemnity of Christ the King was established in 1925 by Pope Pius XI amidst the economic and social upheaval after World War I.
The pope issued an encyclical, Quas primas, extolling the supremacy of Jesus Christ over all peoples for all time.
In the traditional calendar, it falls on the last Sunday in October and thus precedes All Saints Day.
In the new calendar, it was moved to the last Sunday of Ordinary Time and thus precedes Advent.
The Christ the King Novena is a nine-day prayer leading up to the Christ the King feastday, to honor Christβs lordship of all creation and anticipate Christβs reign over all peoples and nations when He returns in glory.
